The challenge

Position Thermacell Mosquito Repellents as the Superior Brand in an Over-Saturated Market

The campaign aimed to generate positive media, blogger, and influencer coverage while increasing brand awareness during spring and summer outdoor adventure and recreation times. It sought to differentiate Thermacell with its innovative and unique attributes, highlighting the convenience of never having to apply bug spray to your skin again. Ultimately, the goal was to drive purchase intent and sales.

National Data on Pest-Free Summer Fun: A national survey showed that mosquitoes are one of Canadians’ least favourite parts of summer, with 80% agreeing they’re a major nuisance, 90% enjoying outdoor activities more when protected, and 55% coming indoors to escape them.

National Media Relations: We shared survey results with media in a data-driven press release, generating positive branded coverage and positioning Thermacell as a must-have for summer. Coverage highlighted the effectiveness, style, and simplicity of the products.

Media and Influencer Giveaways: Lifestyle content creators and TV shows like BT Vancouver shared Thermacell Summer Enjoyment prize packs, with influencers hosting Instagram giveaways and creating content about reclaiming outdoor spaces from mosquitoes.

Influencer ‘Surprise and Delights’: We engaged social media influencers with surprise Summer Fun mailers, leading to unboxing videos that amplified the message of enjoying a mosquito-free summer with Thermacell.
