Social Media & Digital PR Intern

Overview

Strategic Objectives is committed to investing in and mentoring the next generation of PR professionals to support and grow our thriving industry. We offer four-month paid internships to aspiring communications professionals, providing hands-on opportunities to work on unique and memorable campaigns, while receiving industry-leading training and expertise. SO Interns learn the fundamentals of PR first-hand, from the ground up.

Social media and digital PR interns are staffed on client accounts to support on research, social media, graphic design, digital marketing, media relations, product inventory, event planning, tracking, reporting and more. Interns also contribute to internal communications programs, such as agency blog posts, website updates and social channel content development. Interns should have a partially completed or completed Public Relations certificate, communications degree (or similar).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilizes agency research tools (i.e. Meltwater, Klear, Muck Rack and others) to perform research market analysis, track and monitor media coverage
  • Helps account teams prepare for ideation and planning sessions, specifically as it relates to social media
  • Writes engaging social media captions tailored for various platforms (IG, TT, X, LI)
  • Keeps up with social media trends, platform updates, and audience preferences
  • Community management: creating positive interactions with followers, responding to comments, and fostering online communities
  • Takes and edits high-quality photos or videos
  • Gathers social media insights data
  • Supports the PR team with deck design in PowerPoint and BAI (Beautiful AI)
  • Supports in the development of both digital and print materials
  • Communicates with trusted vendors and influencers
  • Shadows experienced team members to learn how to write communications materials, including pitches and correspondence
  • Helps write first drafts of communications materials, as required
  • Supports teams on all aspects of program logistics and execution, including media and experiential events, activations, spokesperson tours and vendor partnerships
  • Works with third parties to develop quotes for services
  • Conducts social media listening using analytics tools to develop reports and industry insights for team/clients
  • Performs administrative duties when required, supporting the in-house production team

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience

  • Partially, or completed communications, PR, journalism, or equivalent certificate/certification/degree
  • Strong command and understanding of written and verbal English language
  • Prior experience managing social media accounts is considered an asset

Digital Applications Knowledge

  • Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Design tools: Canva, Adobe Photoshop, or Illustrator for creating visual content
  • Social media tools: Hootsuite and Later for scheduling and analyzing posts
  • Social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, LinkedIn)
  • Familiarity with platforms like WordPress for managing website content
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) principles to enhance content visibility
  • Basic video editing (e.g., CapCut)
