As Road Trips Increase in Popularity, Hankook Tire Encourages Canadians to Prioritize Tire Safety and Performance
This year, 74 per cent of Canadians have embarked or are planning to complete a summer road trip, with more than half of those drivers travelling 300+ km. But, as Canadians continue to make the most of summer by planning road trips, 66 per cent of drivers do not inspect their tire tread to ensure it is suitable for their drive or destination.
Whether it’s a short trip to the cottage or a lengthier trip between provinces, it is important to ensure vehicles are prepared for the journey ahead and tire safety and knowledge are a top priority. That’s why Hankook Tire created a wide range of summer and all-season tires equipped to handle various terrains and distances.
“Our tires are designed with safety, comfort and optimal application in mind to ensure that no matter what road trip you’re going on, Hankook has tires for your vehicle and journey,” said Aaron Hong, President at Hankook Tire Canada. “One-in-four Canadians are taking road trips over 500 km this summer and with these long distances it’s important to have the appropriate tires to ensure drivers stay safe, no matter where they drive.”
Long distance drives & off-road trails
Among those road-tripping this summer, more than 80 per cent of Canadians are travelling with their family, with popular destinations including cottages (24%), national parks (22%), beaches (22%) and off-roading trails (6%). From paved highways to winding dirt roads, reliable and durable tires are essential, especially for the 53 per cent of Canadians road-trippers that will be travelling in SUVs or light trucks.
For adventurous travellers, the Dynapro AT2 Xtreme delivers excellent off-road traction in rugged conditions. Designed for SUVs and light trucks, this tire offers a quiet and comfortable ride with multi-directional grooves and sipes for optimal traction and staged block edges that reduce road noise.
Local adventures in the city
While many Canadians are hitting the road for long trips, 24 per cent of Canadians will choose to stay close to home, travelling less than 150 km.
Rain or shine, the Kinergy XP delivers all-season control and comfort. Designed for passenger cars and small to medium-sized SUVs, this tire offers enhanced responsive braking on wet roads and superior performance in dry conditions, making it the perfect choice for local adventures.

These findings are from a survey conducted by Hankook Tire from July 29th to July 31st, 2024, among a representative sample of 1,508 online Canadians who are members of the Angus Reid Forum. The survey was conducted in English and French. For comparison purposes only, a probability sample of this size would carry a margin of error of +/-2.53 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
